Matthew Stafford arrived in Detroit one year after Miguel Cabrera did, and though he left the city last year after being traded from the Lions to the Rams, the quarterback returned over the weekend to witness a huge accomplishment by the Tigers slugger.
On Saturday, Cabrera recorded his 3,000th career hit, a single to the right side against the Rockies. He became just the seventh player in MLB history with 500 home runs and 3,000 hits, bolstering his Hall of Fame resume.

Stafford was there in a suite at Comerica Park to see Cabrera’s historic hit, which was fitting after Stafford spent 12 years in Detroit.
The Tigers shared a photo of Cabrera and Stafford in the locker room afterwards, with Stafford sporting a 3,000 hits T-shirt.

During the game, which the Tigers won 13-0, Stafford joined the broadcast booth and shared his thoughts on what it was like to see Cabrera record his 3,000th hit.
“It was so cool just to see the Detroit faithful stand up for every at-bat he’s had tonight,” Stafford said. “Obviously, when he got 3,000 on that first AB, I was lucky enough to be in the stands to see that. What a pro that guy has been for this city, for so many years. What a professional hitter, great guy to be around, so cool to be able to be luckily in this stadium when he makes history like that.”
