Matthew Stafford, Kenny Pickett Highlight Brutal Day of Quarterback Injuries

Heading into Week 8, the NFL was already dealing with a slew of quarterback injuries.

Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill was out due to an ankle injury, opening the door for rookie Will Levis and second-year Malik Willis to get time. Daniel Jones of the Giants was set to miss his game against the Jets, with Tyrod Taylor taking over the starting job for him. The Browns were set to run with P.J. Walker under center, as Deshaun Watson's lingering shoulder injury continued to hold him out of action.

With so many quarterbacks already out, Sunday’s action added several more to the total. Adam Schefter’s social media account read like a rolling hospital roster as the afternoon games continued and teams had to go deeper into their QB depth charts.

The Giants, already on their backup quarterback, had to turn to third-string QB Tommy DeVito after Taylor was ruled out with a rib injury and taken to a hospital.

In Pittsburgh, Kenny Pickett left the game holding his ribs, with Mitch Trubisky taking over the keys to the Steelers offense.

Falcons quarterback Desmond Ridder was replaced by Taylor Heinicke while the former was evaluated for a concussion.

Matthew Stafford was taken out of the game in favor of Brett Rypien after an injury.

And Kirk Cousins was knocked out of action against the Packers after hurting his ankle.

Here’s to hoping quarterbacks come out a bit healthier in the late-afternoon games.
