Van Jefferson made his season debut for the Los Angeles Rams in Week 8 versus the San Francisco after undergoing knee surgery before the start of the season. After Jefferson’s name failed to make an appearance in the box score, Matthew Stafford was apologetic for not getting the versatile wideout involved.
“Yeah, definitely. He did a really nice job of executing things that we asked him to execute. I figured that was going to be coming, that he didn’t get a target. I’ll do my best to get him one,” Stafford said. “I’m sorry about that, but it’s kind of just how the game went and I did think when he was out there, he looked really good. He was moving great. All the confidence in the world for him as he’s coming back.”
The Rams have been desperately seeking another wide receiver to provide consistent production in the offense to ease some pressure off of Cooper Kupp. Allen Robinson has looked better in recent weeks, but Jefferson failed to record a target despite playing on 53 percent of the offensive snaps in Week 8.
Jefferson recorded 50 receptions, 802 yards, and six touchdowns a season ago as he built a nice rapport with Stafford in his second year in the NFL. Expect Stafford to look in No. 12’s direction a bit more in Week 9 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
