Move over, Trea Turner. There’s a new smooth slider in town.
Matt Vierling, as you can see in the screenshot above, had a throw from left field beat him by a mile as the Detroit Tigers outfielder was heading toward second base. But Marcus Semien was north of the bag and had his back to the play. So as the infielder turned around, Vierling came a bit up from his slide, slid past the bag a bit and touched second base with his left hand.
WOW. Maybe he learned this one from his teammate, Javier Baez, who is an all-time great slider. Check this out and some reaction:
