It was a night to remember for Matt Turner as he put in a Man of the Match-worthy performance against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday. The 28-year-old has had a challenging start to life in north London, being the second choice behind Aaron Ramsdale and adjusting to a whole new, more intense, style of play.
Unconvincing moments during pre-season and the Gunners’ opening Europa League match versus FC Zurich left fans concerned that the USMNT shot-stopper was not at the level required to be a solid option between the sticks, but as he continues to train hard and make each start, Turner’s confidence is noticeably growing.
Arsenal knew that if they could pick up the three points in Norway, finishing top of Group A would become that little bit easier. However, facing a team that hadn’t lost a home match in 14 European fixtures whilst playing on artificial turf, it was never going to be a quiet evening for Turner.

Although he wasn't tested as much as initially anticipated, Turner was kept busy and looked composed throughout, playing a number of accurate short and long balls out from his box, as well as commanding his area well and making a vital save in the second half. Overall, it was a solid display that helped his side maintain the 100% record in the competition so far.
After claiming back-to-back clean sheets, Turner received plenty of love from fellow Americans on social media, who have been keeping a close eye on his performances back home. Here is what a few of them had to say on Twitter at full-time.
@HowNeilFeels: "He was excellent today. He has improved his passing so much since leaving MLS. He had one pass to Tierney late in the match with his left foot that I genuinely gasped. Massive improvement."
@alexlienthomas: "He was a bit shaky earlier in the season but has really settled nicely into build up, looks like a great backup after today."
@ManagerTactical: "There should not be any doubt in Berhalter's mind that Matt Turner is the starter for this World Cup."
@COsoccerpod: "Quality Matt Turner save there. The turf at Bodo Glimt won’t phase him!"
@MarseilleTurn: "He's improved so much already. Just his positioning alone to receive passes. Getting much better, glad he made this move."
@galloway_golf: "His sweeping was unbelievable today. And his balls out to the FBs have improved a ton."
@Lacazest: "Was really impressed by the performance of Matt Turner in goal today."
