Notts County have provided the perfect Christmas present by announcing Matt Palmer has signed a new contract with the club.
The Magpies midfielder's new deal will see him stay at Meadow Lane until the end of the 2024-2025 season.
The 27-year-old arrived last summer and capped a sensational debut campaign by scooping both the Players’ and Fans’ Player of the Season awards.

Palmer’s class has continued to shine through in 2022-23, with his calmness and quality in possession perfectly lending itself to the club’s playing philosophy, and Luke Williams is delighted the former Rotherham man has signed new terms.
“Anyone who’s seen Matt play won’t need me to tell them how important he is to us,” said the head coach. “This is fantastic news for everyone connected with the club.
“Matt had nothing to prove to anyone when he first arrived here – his career speaks for itself – but he has applied himself incredibly over the last 18 months and thoroughly deserves his new deal.
“Not only is he a great match for us in terms of the qualities he brings on the pitch, but he’s also fiercely ambitious and shares the club’s desire to be back in the EFL at the earliest opportunity.
“He’ll continue to play a massive part for us moving forward and I’m very excited to have him in our long-term plans.”
Palmer is the only member of the squad to have played in every match so far this season and he is determined to make the second half of the campaign as successful as the first.
“I’ve loved every minute of my time at Notts so far, but this season has been especially enjoyable,” he said.
“I think our performance levels have been incredibly high, and the way we dominate and work with the ball is something I’ve loved playing a part in.
“It’s the perfect system for me and the environment Luke and his staff have created is something I and the rest of the lads really enjoy.
“We know there’s a long way to go but we’ve got huge belief in ourselves and I’m excited to see what the future brings.”
