Matt O'Riley reveals crucial Celtic transfer phone call from Ange Postecoglou that instantly sold him on a move

New recruit Matt O'Riley admits he was instantly convinced to sign for Celtic following a conversation with Ange Postecoglou.

He becomes Potecoglou 's fifth addition of the January window after penning a four-and-a-half year deal for a fee in the region of £1.5million from MK Dons.

The 21-year-old has revealed he did have other offers on the table but was convinced over a move to the Premiership by one phone call from the Australian.

O'Riley told Celtic TV: "There were other options, ones that I thought were the only ones before Celtic.

"Then Celtic came out of the blue, to be fair.

"I had a phone call with Ange and he came across really well.

"He was the one that really sold me. The club itself is massive, but he was the one who really sold it to me, and with the style he plays, and all that surrounds it, honestly as soon as I got off the phone I was ready to come to be honest."

O'Riley also had a few familiar Parkhead favourites convincing him to join the club.

As well as being coached by Peter Grant, he went to school with former loanee Patrick Roberts and played alongside former playmaker Stefan Johansen at Fulham.

He added: "Peter Grant coached me during my time in the Under-23 side at Fulham.

"Pat, I went to school with, he's a bit older than me but at the time at Fulham he was someone I really looked up to and that's another one for the story books.

"Stef, I got to know really well. He is Norwegian and I have a bit of Norwegian in me, so we got in at that sense.

"It's nice to follow the same routes."
