Matt O'Riley handed Denmark opportunity as he receives first senior call-up

Celtic star Matt O'Riley is in line to make his debut for Denmark tomorrow in San Marino after being called up for the first time.

The Hoops midfielder has already scored five goals in 11 appearances for his club this season after an excellent start to the campaign.

He was tipped to be called up for Denmark's Euro 2024 double-header against Kazakhstan and San Marino but was a surprise omission from the original squad with manager Kasper Hjulmand acknowledging he was aware of his progress and was watching him.

O'Riley was in Copenhagen to watch the Danes defeat Kazakhstan on Saturday night and after the game, Hjulmand was asked whether he would be called up.

He said: "He may well be! Let's look at our situation. I just want to make sure that we can go to San Marino with 23 players,"

And it's now been confirmed that he's replaced Anderlecht striker Kasper Dolberg in the squad who has returned home for family reasons and will be in contention for his first cap in San Marino.

The Danish FA stated: "Kasper Dolberg travels home to Belgium so he can be with his newborn twins and his girlfriend.

"National coach Kasper Hjulmand decided together with Dolberg that he should go home after the Kazakhstan game to be with his family.

"He will be replaced by Matt O'Riley." O'Riley, 22, has been capped four times by Denmark's Under 21s, including a 1-1 draw against Scotland last summer.
