Matt O'Riley Celtic transfer latest as mentor 'sure' star will stay at Hoops amid EPL interest

Matt O'Riley's former Fulham coach Peter Grant reckons it's highly unlikely his ex-prodigy leaves Celtic this summer.

Speculation has been rife that English Premier League club Leicester City - managed by former Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers - is interested in the midfielder. His own playmaker, James Maddison, is subject to Newcastle United interest and this has only heightened talk that O'Riley could come into the Foxes view if that deal goes through.

Grant knows Maddison from the Norwich City youth scene and was also the Celtic midfield maestro's coach during his youth days at Fulham. He believes the two rumours spinning at the same time is nothing for his former club in Glasgow to worry about and insists that despite the talk, O'Riley will be more than likely to stay put, having only signed form MK Dons eight months ago. Speaking to Go Radio, he reckons the interest isn't something to hide away from.

Grant said: "I know my Maddison from being a kid at Norwich and he is a completely different player to Matt. He is a midfield player while James is a number 10 player.

"Matt is a wonderful player who will only get better the more games he played. He won't be wanting to get rested as he gets better the more he plays.

"He has fantastic quality. If you are at Celtic or Rangers, you want the best players coming looking for your players. It means your team is doing well.

"It means your top players are playing. They got top money for Kieran Tierney, your Moussa Dembele's. You want people chapping your door. But I am sure Matt will stay at Celtic."
