Matt Hancock showdown as I'm A Celeb bosses expect fireworks with raging campmates

The jungle showdown when Matt Hancock enters camp is set to be one of the biggest TV moments of the year.

The MP will be officially confirmed as joining the series tonight by Ant and Dec and viewers will see him enter camp on tonight's I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!

But the reaction of the other celebrities is almost certain to make for brilliant TV. And it is likely to be fascinating to see who quizzes him first on why he is there.

One TV source said: "The show is doing brilliantly in the ratings already but his introduction will only increase the levels of interest. And how the other contestants react to Hancock will be fascinating. Whatever you think of his decision to go on the show, it will be must watch TV."

ITV Newsreader and Loose Women star Charlene White is the most likely to take Hancock to task for appearing on the show when he is a serving MP who would normally be working for his constituents back in West Suffolk.

Before going onto the show she was asked whether she would probe the other celebs.

Charlene said: "I have got a natural curiosity for people so it doesn’t matter who I meet on a daily basis it could be, I don’t know the security that has been working on this show, or people I bump into on the street, I am constantly asking questions because I love to learn about people.

"I think that you can learn a lot about life by asking questions and I think there is too much of a temptation for people to not be interested in other human beings, whereas I am of the opinion like ‘oh my God there is like a million stories in each and every one of us’ why do you not want to find out more about another person."

Other campmates who could take issue with Hancock include outspoken singer Boy George and Corrie actor Sue Cleaver who has campaigned for Labour in previous elections.

Hancock is entering the show with comedian Seann Walsh and both will go into camp together.

MPs, members of the public and even the Prime Minister have lined up to criticise Hancock's decision to go on the show and pick up a six-figure cheque in return.

A spokesman for Hancock has defended his decision to go on the show. They said: "The second reading of Matt's Dyslexia Screening and Teacher Training Bill is just days after I'm A Celeb finishes.

"This is an amazing opportunity for Matt to raise the profile of his dyslexia campaign and to talk about an issue he really cares about in front of millions of people.

"Matt will be making a donation to St Nicholas Hospice in Suffolk, and causes supporting dyslexia, off the back of his appearance. He will, of course, declare the amount he receives from the show to Parliament to ensure complete transparency, as normal."

I'm A Celebrity continues on ITV tonight at 9.15pm.
