Matt Hancock has been blasted on Good Morning Britain after opening up about his affair with Gina Coladangelo in the campsite.
On Thursday's instalment of I'm A Celebrity, viewers were left equally enthralled and fuming when MP Hancock shared details of his affair, admitting that he messed up, but that he had fallen in love with Gina.
Back in April, the former Health Secretary apologised after the High Court ruled government policies on discharging patients from hospital into care homes at the onset of the pandemic were 'unlawful'.
Then in June 2021, he was forced to resign after CCTV footage surfaced of him embracing his aide Gina Coladangelo, at a time when this would breach his own rules on physical contact. The shock footage ended his 15-year marriage although he remains in a relationship with Gina.
I'm A Celebrity viewers saw fellow campmate Babatúndé Aléshé leave Mr Hancock squirming after saying he was 'grabbing booty' when he was caught on CCTV with his lover.
In the I'm A Celeb camp, Comedian Babatúndé asked Matt: “How have things been?”
To which Mr Hancock replied: “It was really tough.” Babatúndé then said: “Because you messed up.”
The MP replied: “I messed up and I fessed up. I resigned and it’s no excuse but I fell in love, right? That also had a lot of other consequences obviously. That’s been hard, I obviously brought it on myself, so yeah… it’s been tough.”
Babatúndé then asked Mr Hancock if he was still with 'the lady', to which Mr Hancock confessed: "With Gina? Yeah very much so, yeah, totally. That’ll be the best thing about being kicked out, seeing her on the bridge.”
After opening up about his relationship with Gina, Good Morning Britain hosts Ben Shephard and Charlotte Hawkins discussed his confession - with Ben suggesting Matt's explanation must have been incredibly hard for his ex-wife and children to hear.
Panelists Jacqui Smith and Iain Dale also discussed the impact of Hancock's addressing of his cheating scandal, suggesting that there has been a 'lack of care' for his former wife and their kids.
"There are families involved in this. And Matt Hancock has made a decision that will impact on his former wife and his children as well. He's able to sit on the telly and say 'I fell in love' and say that's why he was unfaithful to his wife," Jacqui shared.
"People will make their own decision about that. But I feel a bit conflicted about his ability to just be able to sit there and justify himself like that. And I hope he's talked to his ex-wife about what the implications of him doing this are.
"Because she has been on the receiving end of a pretty difficult time because of his behaviour. And the children who are at school today - you've got to think about them as well."
