Matt Fitzpatrick has emerged as one of the very best golfers from the UK and is also a Major champion after victory at the 2022 US Open. Not only did the Englishman triumph at Brookline after winning the 2013 US Amateur Championship at the same venue, but he has built a fantastic resume around his Major scalp. Here, we get to know him better with these 20 facts...

1. Matthew Thomas Fitzpatrick was born 1st September 1994 in Sheffield, England.

2. He is a huge Sheffield United fan and was seen handing out the club's shirt at the Phoenix Open in 2022.

3. Matt has a younger brother called Alex who is also a professional golfer. Both men have played in the Walker Cup - Matt in 2013 and Alex in both 2019 and 2021, with both appearing at The 151st Open Championship.

4. Fitzpatrick rose up the ranks of the amateur game very quickly, becoming the World No.1 amateur in 2013 and 2014. He held the honour for a total of 21 weeks.

5. He won the low amateur honours at the 2013 Open Championship at Muirfield.

6. After getting to the number one spot, he attended Northwestern University in Chicago to play for their golf team, the Wildcats. He left after just one semester.

7. He turned professional after the 2014 US Open, where he was the only amateur from 11 players to make the halfway cut. He finished at +11 for the four rounds at Pinehurst No.2.

8. His handicap was +4 at the time of turning professional.

9. His first professional win came at the 2015 British Masters. Afterwards, he acknowledged that a new car might be on the horizon after several fellow professionals ripped into him for driving a Ford Mondeo. Speaking to reporters at the time about his dream car, he said: "It's an Ascari A10 but my dad won't let me spend it all on that."

10. In 2018, he became the first player since Seve Ballesteros to successfully defend an Omega European Masters title. That victory, at the age of 23, meant he surpassed Nick Faldo as the youngest Englishman to win five times on the European Tour.

11. He has made three appearances in the Ryder Cup, including the European team that beat the United States at Marco Simone in 2023. He has a record of 1-7-0 for Team Europe.

12. Fitzpatrick has veteran caddie Billy Foster on the bag, who has worked with the likes of Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood and Darren Clarke in the past.

13. His best world ranking to date is 6th.

14. His 2022 US Open victory at Brookline meant that he joined Jack Nicklaus as the second man to win a US Open and US Amateur at the same venue.

15. He is mainly an equipment free agent. Matt Fitzpatrick's clubs are made by a range of different brands. He does have a deal with Bettinardi to use the brand's putters and Titleist to use the company's ball, though.

16. He made a hole-in-one during a practice round for the 2022 WM Phoenix Open and also at the 2023 US Open.

17. He claimed his second win on the PGA Tour at the 2023 RBC Heritage, beating Jordan Spieth in a playoff with a birdie on the third extra hole. 

18. He spends his time between Jupiter, Florida and Sheffield, England.

19. His home club in Florida is The Dye Preserve, while his home club in England is The Hallamshire.

20. Fitzpatrick has won over $25m on the PGA Tour and over €23m on the DP World Tour.
