SEATTLE — I'll start with a preface I may have to add to my author bio, as I've repeated it in some form or another more than twice: I have no idea how much the thoughts of tweeters, message-board posters or newspaper-column commenters represent the general public.

But I'm going to indulge the online gripes of the anonymous right now, because I think they are speaking for more than just the fringe. People are saying that greed is ruining college football.
