Sam Kerr is just 90 minutes away from winning another trophy with Chelsea, while her Matildas teammate Ellie Carpenter remains on track for a first cup triumph in England.
Both played their parts in reaching the League Cup final when the defending champions travelled north to Manchester on Wednesday night and helped down City 1-0.
Chelsea, who beat City 2-1 in last season's decider, had midfielder Wieke Kaptein to thank for her goal in the 41st minute.
