Matilda the Musical: Netflix release date, what is it about, cast list

Netflix Matilda Wormwood Agatha Trunchbull Phelps Roald Dahl

The new adaptation of Roald’s Dahl’s classic tale Matilda, is headed to Netflix this week.

The film is based on both the Roald Dahl book and the Olivier and Tony award-winning musical adaptation from Australian actor-comedian Tim Minchin – who also wrote the music and lyrics for the new movie. This is the second film adaptation of Matilda, after the iconic 1996 version directed by and starring Danny DeVito.

The new film, which was released in cinemas back in November, drops on Netflix this week. The adaptation also sees Matilda the Musical’s original 2011 West End director Matthew Warchus returning.
