Mathura child theft case: Bail cancelled for Firozabad councillor, her husband

AGRA: A fast track court in Mathura district has cancelled the bail application of BJP Firozabad councillor Vineeta Agarwal (44) and her husband Krishna Murari Agarwal (51) who are accused of "buying" a seven-month-old boy from child traffickers.

The child was kidnapped from Mathura railway station in the early hours of August 24, was recovered after five days of intense search. On August 28, Mathura GRP along with Firozabad police recovered the child from the house of the councillor. Police said the councilor along with her husband had "bought" the child from a Hathras-based doctor couple for "Rs 1.8 lakh".

In all, eleven people have been arrested, including the doctor couple Dr Prem Bihari Singh (35) and his wife Dayawati Singh (34), who according to officials were running a "human trafficking" nexus. Both accused doctors, along with two more accused - including a nurse, her husband - had also applied for bail. However, they have sought fresh date for hearing of their bail application. Additional district government counsel Subhash Chaturvedi said, "Court on Wednesday cancelled the bail application of two accused including the Firozabad councilor and her husband. Four other accused asked for extra time to prepare for hearing on bail application which was granted".
