Mathias Jensen reveals the Manchester United player Brentford targeted in 4-0 humiliation

Brentford goalscorer Mathias Jensen explained how his team made a point of closing down Christian Eriksen in his club’s 4-0 win over Manchester United.

The Dane, who was featuring against the club he played for last season, was kept quiet by his ex-teammates as the Bees dismantled United. Eriksen played in a deeper role alongside Fred in midfield during the game.

He operated the role on a number of occasions for Brentford but struggled in the position during the defeat on Saturday and was robbed of the ball by Jenson before he slammed home the second goal. Prior to the game, his former boss, Thomas Frank, told Sky Sports that keeping tabs on Eriksen would be key throughout the 90 minutes.

"I expect two things: either he will be playing the eight, or playing the six in the build-up. No doubt we know we need to close him down," he told Sky Sports.

And after full-time, Jensen reiterated the tactics used to stun United. "They couldn’t cope with our pressure, our long balls, picking up the second balls,” he said.

“I think we did everything excellent and we could see they were struggling. It was me or either Josh Dasilva, we had to put the pressure on their six, especially if it was Christian Eriksen playing because we know he wants to dictate the game.

“So we tried to be as aggressive as possible because we know they want to play. If you can get at them you have a big chance."
