Match of the Day host Gary Lineker makes bold title call after Arsenal win and Man City lose

Match of the Day host Gary Lineker has predicted that Arsenal will win the Premier League following their 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

Arsenal blew their North London rivals off the park in the first 45 minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and they were ahead just less than a quarter of an hour into the match. Great work by Bukayo Saka saw him manage to get a shot on target which Hugo Lloris inexplicably parried into his own goal.

Spurs were rocked and could have been further behind when Thomas Partey's volley struck the woodwork. Mikel Arteta did not have to wait long for his side to double their advantage though.

Martin Odegaard fired a low strike into the bottom corner to make it 2-0 with less than 10 minutes of the half remaining. Aaron Ramsdale was called into action on several occasions but was more than equal to efforts from Harry Kane and Ryan Sessegnon.

The victory moved the Gunners eight points clear of Manchester City who suffered derby day defeat at Manchester United on Saturday. Jack Grealish gave the Blues the lead on the hour mark at Old Trafford but were pegged back in controversial circumstances 18 minutes later through Bruno Fernandes.

Marcus Rashford scored the winner for United in the 82nd minute to ensure the bragging rights remained in the red half of Manchester. Following the weekend's action, Lineker took to Twitter to share his bold prediction for the title race.

He posted: "Arsenal will win the Premier League title this year." The omens appear to be against City as only Liverpool have had more points than the Gunners at this stage of the season and not won the title.

However, on a positive note for Blues fans it was City who managed to deny Jurgen Klopp's side on that occasion. Pep Guardiola's side also have to face Arsenal twice in the league before the end of the campaign.
