Match of the Day 2 to feature commentary after Gary Lineker row in Sunday's cut-back show

Match of the Day 2 is set to have commentary included this evening, although it will still be a 20-minute show.

Regular host Gary Lineker was forced to "step back" from Saturday's version after the former Tottenham Hotspur striker criticised the government's Illegal Migration Bill, as well as the language they had used towards refugees.

Since then, Arsenal legends Ian Wright and Alex Scott, as well as Newcastle United icon Alan Shearer, announced they would not be appearing on the BBC show in support of Lineker.

That culminated in Saturday night airing a cut-back 20-minute version, with no presenters or pundits willing to appear. Now, the BBC have convinced commentators to make a swift return for this evening's show.

Despite some of his colleagues' firm stances, ex-Blackburn frontman and current pundit Chris Sutton has since urged Lineker and the BBC to quickly resolve their differences. Writing on Twitter, Sutton said: "There is no 606 tonight.

"I hope Gary Lineker and the BBC resolve this messy situation and Gary is back on MOTD soon but I’d have loved to have worked on our football phone-in tonight and chatted about football and all of the days' games."
