Massive illegal 'Coronation rave' in quiet village 'sounded like Leeds festival'

An illegal Coronation rave in a quiet village has left locals fuming at loud music that they say sounded more like a festival.

North Yorkshire Police attended after receiving reports of loud music, drug use and disorder in the Stillingfleet area.

The force has said this caused "huge distress and disruption" to the locals.

A significant number of officers and drones were deployed to the scene.

One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, was astonished by how sophisticated the illegal rave set-up was.

"They had stages, generators, vans, you name it," she said.

She also spoke to people who'd travelled from London, Bakewell, Brighton, Leeds and Wakefield to attend on Monday, all learning of the rave via social media.

Other posts complaining about the music on social media said the ravers had said it could go on until Tuesday.

One resident compared the rave to "Leeds Fest" and said she witnessed drink and drug driving, which was her main concern regarding the event. There are also reports online of party-goers defecating on the roadside.

The concerned mother said: "It felt like Leeds Fest all over again!

"Genuinely did. I'm angry, and disappointed. Worried about the people who are now driving home to god knows where under the influence of drugs/and or alcohol.

"And worried this could so easily happen again. We are obviously a rural community, and of course whilst everybody hopes it won’t happen on their doorstep, we definitely never thought that kind of thing would happen here."

North Yorkshire Police said: "Officers on scene at suspected illegal rave. Police officers are in attendance following reports of an illegal rave involving loud music, drug use and disorder in the Stillingfleet area overnight.

"Events such as these cause huge distress and disruption to the local community, and also put attendees themselves at risk. Significant number of officers are deploying to the scene, including police drone pilots.

"Any illegal activity identified will be dealt with robustly. We're grateful to local residents for their patience while we work to resolve this incident."
