'Massive blow to Congress' appeasement politics': BJP after Supreme Court's conversion ruling

New Delhi: The BJP on Thursday hailed the Supreme Court's judgement on backward quota benefits for converts as "historic" and asserted that the ruling is a "massive blow to the appeasement politics" of the Congress and other opposition parties.

The Supreme Court on Thursday held that Hindus belonging to backward classes cannot claim quota benefits of that category after converting to Islam, saying backwardness suffered in the antecedent social order can't be carried forward.
