Mass killing of stray dogs in Siddipet district, says activist

Alleging that mass killing of stray dogs took place at Thigul village in Jagadevpur mandal of Siddipet district, a complaint was lodged with Siddipet District Collector and Siddipet Commissioner of Police on Monday. It was alleged that more than 100 dogs were killed by administering poisonous substance and carcasses were improperly disposed off.

Adulapuram Goutham, an animal activist with Stray Animal Foundation of India, has lodged a complaint with Siddipet Collector and Siddipet Commissioner of Police on Monday. A complaint was also lodged with Jagadevpur police on Sunday night.

“Village sarpanch and secretary of Thigul village hired professional dog catchers and got some 100 stray dogs killed. The professional dog catchers started killing of dogs by using lethal injections from early hours of March 27. A six-year-old pet dog brought from Blue Cross of Hyderabad, named Bruno, was among the animals that were killed. The villagers informed us that some 200 stray dogs were killed in the last three months,” Mr. Goutham wrote in his complaint to the Siddipet Commissioner of Police.

In a video released on the social media platforms, Mr. Goutham stated that they received information only after killing of the pet dog Bruno came to light and even villagers have confirmed about the mass killing.

Another video grab showed carcasses of dogs being dumped in a pit and a person, claiming to be owner of Bruno, explaining how his pet dog was killed. Villagers told in another video that more than 100 dogs were taken away and killed.

“Similar incidents are taking place across the State but have not come to our notice immediately. Few months ago mass killing of dogs took place at Narsapur in Medak district and the government has suspended the Commissioner, holding him responsible. Some stray dogs were left in forest area near Sircilla about two weeks ago and they will die without food and water. This is not only inhuman, but also illegal,” Mr. Goutham told The Hindu adding that stray dogs can be sterilized but must not be killed.
