Mason Mount told clear reason why he must seal Chelsea transfer exit amid major Arsenal claim

In a quite shocking turn of events, it now looks more likely that Mason Mount will leave Chelsea this summer over signing a new contract. The 24-year-old's current deal expires in 2024 and talks regarding an extension were initially set to take place prior to the World Cup, but were placed on hold.

A negotiation timeline was then set for Mount to enter conversations in January regarding a renewal, but again the Blues' transfer business took priority. Within Stamford Bridge, it is now viewed as an issue to resolve in the summer, however by that point Mount may have already decided where his future lies and it looks more likely to be away from west London with each passing day.

Liverpool are the main Premier League club highly interested in signing Mount, with Jurgen Klopp in desperate need of several new midfielders. Manchester United and Manchester City have been briefly mentioned, but a new option emerged for Mount last Friday after former Blues boss Thomas Tuchel took the reigns at Bayern Munich.

Tuchel does face some obstacles he must first overcome to lure Mount to Germany. Meanwhile, Liverpool appear to be comfortably leading the race, with a source telling football.london that the Reds are seriously interested in the England international and are preparing to make a move for the midfielder in the summer should the situation remain unsolved.

Mount is arguably playing for his future, both at Chelsea and in regard to any possible transfer destinations, but the Cobham graduate has struggled for consistent minutes in recent months. Given his ties to Chelsea, having been at the club for 15 years, it is hardly a decision he will take lightly, but former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor has explained exactly why he should leave.

“I think he has to go. It hasn’t worked out for him this season,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT. “You know, three goals and two assists – not good enough for where Chelsea want to go.

"Sometimes, being at a club since you were a kid, maybe it’s gone a bit stale there. He needs to move on and have a fresh start somewhere.”

Danny Murphy has also been discussing the future of Mount which included dishing out significant praise in the direction of the Champions League winner, even going as far as saying he would be given good minutes at the best team currently in England.

"I am a big fan of Mason Mount," Murphy told talkSPORT. "The criticism this season has been fine because he has had a poor time, as has the team. But he has been at a huge club for four seasons and three of them he has been excellent.'

"From a football perspective I think he gets in Liverpool’s team, Man United’s team and at a push he could get really good game time in Arsenal’s team.'
