Ricky Wilson has admitted he would never have guessed himself as Phoenix on The Masked Singer, if it was down to the clues the panel had to mull over during the course of the series.
After six weeks of having millions of viewers tuning in every Saturday night, the latest run of the hit ITV show came to an end on Saturday night as Phoenix battled it out with Fawn and eventual winner Rhino for the crown. After Fawn bowed out in third place, to be revealed as All Saints star Natalie Appleton, it was left to Phoenix and Rhino to sing again in a bid to top the studio audience vote.
The result went in Rhino's favour, with Charlie Simpson unmasked minutes after, but not before Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky stunned the panel will his reveal, with none of them guessing him.
And Ricky has admitted he wouldn't have known it was him if he'd been given the same clues the panels were handed. Speaking in the aftermath of The Masked Singer final, Ricky said: "I doubt I could have even guessed myself from some of those clues. I’ve done a lot over the last two decades, not all of which I remember as clearly as everyone else."
Davina McCall and guest judge Lee Mack both guessed Phoenix was David Tennant and on the subject of being compared to the Doctor Who star, Ricky said: "I was pleasantly surprised. I liked the David Tennant stuff and couldn’t wait to message him once it was revealed. I was so certain that they would see through the mask. Every wrong guess was a bonus."
While the panel didn't link any clues from Phoenix's VT over the last few weeks to Ricky, fans had the measure of them pretty early on. Clues included one about football, with the Kaiser Chiefs also being the name of a South African team and the appearance sticks of rock, which looks like being a nod to the cover for Kaiser Chiefs' Souvenir album.
