The Masked Singer’s Pat Cash has opened up about keeping his identity secret after he was revealed to be Bagpipes over the weekend.
Pat Cash told Lorraine Kelly he tried various accents while performing songs to throw the judges off the scent.
The Australian tennis player said appearing on the hit ITV singing competition was a “great challenge” after he was the fourth to be eliminated on Saturday.
He also detailed the lengths he went to in order to conceal his Bagpipes secret, saying he was “blown away” by the logistics.
He said: “We’re so covered up and secretive from the moment we leave the house.
“At my flat in London, we have to put on this balaclava, visor and cover up. I thought, if I come out of the house looking like Robocop, people are going to wonder what is going on.
“So, my girlfriend would go outside and say the coast is clear to get in the taxi.”
Appearing on Lorraine from Melbourne, Pat said his Norway-based daughter had no clue he had appeared on the show and only discovered when the public did after the reveal over the weekend.
He told Lorraine: “I sent her the clips yesterday. She said, I love this show, my kids love it - why are you sending me this? I said, have a look and see who’s singing in there.”
Host Lorraine said: “People thought it was me under there! You looked like you were having an absolute ball.”
Pat said that he decided to take part in the show to satisfy the “frustrated rockstar” inside him.
He said: “This was a great opportunity for me. I have singers in my family, so I’ve heard all the scales and the warm-ups.
“I would be right down the bottom of the list of doing anything like this before. I’ve always said I never want to do any of these shows before, but this one appealed to me.
“I got some singing lessons and just had a lot of fun.”
This weekend’s show saw the celebrities sing love songs as the panel tried desperately to guess who was behind the elaborate costumes.
Poodle and Bagpipes found themselves in the dreaded sing-off after host Joel Dommett announced that Traffic Cone, Panda and Rockhopper had all made it through to next week.
The two characters proceeded to sing another song each, with Bagpipes opting for a Dusty Springfield number while Poodle sang a rendition of Clean Bandit's track Symphony.
As the performances came to an end, the panel said they had decided to save Poodle - as Bagpipes was forced to take off their mask.
Davina McCall was thrilled that she had guessed right and was seen cheering as Pat spoke to host Joel.
Asked what made him decide to do The Masked Singer, Pat said: “I just thought it would be so much fun to rock out, although I prefer to hide behind a guitar instead of a sweaty mask. It was a great experience overall.
“As luck would have it, my schedule cleared. I’m a big believer in letting your higher power take over and I suppose it meant I was able to take part in the show.”
Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV
