Masked Singer's Mushroom's identity 'solved' by viewers after phone-in clue

Charlotte Church is Mushroom on The Masked Singer UK, according to viewers of the hit ITV series.

After weeks of guessing, and the semi-final approaching, many fans are convinced Welsh singer Charlotte will be unmasked as the character.

From her accent to key clues about her past, fans have been putting the pieces together and are now convinced they have it sussed.

The latest episode might have been the biggest giveaway yet, and appeared to majorly hint Charlotte could well be Mushroom.

Fans cracked the case thanks to a call-in number that appeared on the screen.

Not only could the phone-in teaser be a massive link to Charlotte, given how she rose to fame, but it's what the numbers spell out that reveals all.

Viewers may be aware that Charlotte rose to fame in 1997 aged 11, when she called into ITV's This Morning and sang for the hosts.

It was this performance that shot her to stardom and launched her music career.

The fake phone-in number at the end of Mushroom's VT on Saturday night showed the numbers '345997'.

Some clever fans managed to decipher what that numbers equal in letters, and it appears to be a Welsh word, 'eglwys' that when translated into English reads 'church'.

With this being her surname, and Charlotte being Welsh and having found fame due to phoning into a show fans are now convinced she is Mushroom.

This along with other clues about being in the press, liking nature and a Heartbeat role when she was younger, have left viewers certain.

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: "Charlotte Church became famous after calling in to this morning in 1997? The call number and it ending in 97? Am I reaching?"

Another commented in response: "Yep! Also can I just say that if you put 345997 into the old fashioned phone (where you click a number several times to get a letter), if you put that number into an old fashioned phone you get eglwys. So go into google translate now and search up what eglwys means in eng!"

This was echoed by another comment that read: "As a Welsh speaker I’m telling you eglwys is spelt like that 345997. It’s Charlotte."

A third said: "Watching #TheMaskedSingerUK and I think I worked out who #Mushroom is through those numbers - 345997. On a phone keypad, e g l w y s - Cymraeg am ‘Church’. It HAS to be @charlottechurch! Even Mo thinks so!! or maybe I’m overthinking this…"

This was backed by another tweet that said: "345997 = Eglwys = Church (Welsh). Mushroom has to be @charlottechurch."

Another clue spotted was: "No agree with you getting close to nature is her retreat and she started an outdoor school."

A final tweet read: "The VT for mushroom showed a perfume bottle by KK and mentioned the words ‘that make your heartbeat’. Charlotte Church was in Hearbeat and her character was named Katie Kendall!"

The Masked Singer UK airs Saturdays at 7pm on ITV.
