Claire Richards made one last attempt to deny she was on The Masked Singer, before her exit as Knitting left many fans upset on Saturday night.
Given that her first VT included a magpie, which was swiftly identified as a nod to Steps song One for Sorrow and the number 26, which just so happens to be the sum of 5,6,7,8 - the pop group' debut single, many Steps fans had Claire rumbled as Knitting right from week one.
And, by the time she sang No More Tears (Enough is Enough), a song she previously sang on tour and clues about Knitting wanting someone to turn the light on (Scared of the Dark references) and the future being in two halves (Steps' two editions of their What the Future Holds album), they were left in no doubt.

Last week Davina McCall finally said what Masked Singer fans had been saying for weeks, when she guessed Claire for Knitting, after recalling the early magpie clue and a sad face in what proved to be Knitting's last VT on Saturday night, cemented her suspicions. Claire was also exposed by Stephen Mulhern as he joined the show as a guest panellist, before Knitting finished bottom of the studio vote and was the first of two acts to be sent home.
As an avid Masked Singer viewers, Claire has been very public with her guesses ever single week and, this Saturday was no different, as she aired her thoughts on every act on Twitter, including Knitting. Watching herself cover Anastacia's Left Outside Alone, she tweeted: "Still so confused! #knitting. I don’t think it’s Jane Macdonald anymore...but who???"
Fans were quick to call her out for trying to pull the wool over their eyes and then same fans were left gutted by her elimination. One reacted: "It's a Tragedy! Knitting aka@_ClaireRichards. Was unmasked on tonight's #TheMaskedSingerUK.Claire was Superb-The audience vote gets in wrong again."
Equally unhappy with the outcome, another posted: "Gutted to see Claire Richards (Knitting) go so soon :( Actually shocked"
