Masked Singer fans 'convinced' performer is Claire Richards after genius 'lights on' clue

Fans of ITV's The Masked Singer reckon they have figured out one of the shows mysterious performers after a huge clue was revealed. Tonight's show (Saturday, January 14) once again saw a number of anonymous performers sing their hearts out on stage while the panel - and audience at home - try to guess who is behind the mask.

Last week, Piece of Cake was revealed to be Eurovision superstar Lulu Kennedy-Cairns. The rest of the colourful cast, including Jellyfish, Cat and Mouse, Phoenix, Otter, and Knitting have yet to be revealed - but fans think they recognise Knitting's distinctive voice.

Knitting, who was featured in the first episode as well as Saturday's show, told audiences: "Knitting is easy, it’s the crossing of sticks, count all your stitches, there should be 26."

But it was the clue she gave tonight about "leaving the light on" which led fans to believe the singer was in fact Claire Richards of Steps fame. One fan believed the clue related to the song "Scared of the Dark" which was released in 2017.

They said: "Nine year old son immediately shouted STEPS as soon as he heard the clue about leaving the light on (Scared of the dark). Then as soon as she started singing we all knew #ClaireFromSteps #Knitting #MaskedSinger.

Another fan added: "Knitting is Claire Richards from Steps who has guessed everybody else except this on !! 500% Not giving nothing away at all are you @_ClaireRichards??"

Someone else added: "Claire is one of the ALL TIME best British vocalists and she has never been taken seriously because of Steps, I hope to GOD people wake up now."

"Knitting is absolutely 100% Claire Richards from Steps. That voice is pretty recognisable."

Fans voted Knitting in the bottom two alongside Cat and Mouse, where she sand a heart wrenching rendition of Memory from the musical Cats. Meanwhile, Cat and Mouse performed a duet of There's Nothing Holding Me Back by Shawn Mendes.

"I’m SO glad she was in the bottom now omg, this performance is the best thing I’ve ever heard," said one Knitting fan.

However, the judges - Davina McColl, Johnathon Ross, Rita Ora, Mo Gilligan - voted to save Knitting, meaning she will live to see another day. Instead, it was Cat and Mouse who were revealed to be Martin and Shirley Kemp of pop stardom.
