Marvel Fan Takes Matters Into Own Hands, Transforms Into Deadpool After Speeding Driver Kills His Pet Cat Groot

When a speeding motorist tore through a man's residential street and killed his beloved cat, he decided to take matters into his own hands by suiting up as the anti-hero Deadpool to convince other drivers to slow down.

Two weeks ago, Mark Spaven's cat, Groot, was struck and killed by one of the many motorists who use his residential street as a speedway, which Spaven said they've been doing for years.

Since his appeals to lower the speed limit from 30 to 20 are seemingly being ignored by his council, the Nottingham Post reported the self-proclaimed Marvel superfan is dressing up like Deadpool and walking around with a homemade "Slow Down Please" sign to encourage drivers to do just that.

"I'm not just doing it because I'm upset about the cat, there are kids that walk around here," Spaven told the Nottingham Post.

Spaven's residential street in Carlton, England, is situated in the middle of traffic lights, which he suspects drivers are keen to avoid, per the Nottingham Post. As such, they race down his drive instead, sometimes at speeds of up to 50 mph.

In the past few years, Spaven told the Nottingham Post he has been struck nearly three times by speeding drivers, and he's not the only one.

"I recently distributed leaflets all around the community and it was surprising how many people who came out the door and said they nearly got hit. It's only a short little drive," Spaven told Metro.
