A Marvel-daft runner is set to run 100 miles in less than 24 hours dressed as Spider-Man to raise funds for a Scots children's charity.
Ed Law, 48, will run from the headquarters of Charlie House in Aberdeen to Inverness on July 17 to raise funds for the non-profit, which supports kids across the region with life-limiting conditions. He has previously run the route, along the A96, but has never completed the challenge in less than a day.
However, dressed as the world-famous web-head this time around, he hopes to break through the 24 hour barrier. Aberdeen Live reports that the costume was chosen by kids at Charlie House – and has been getting plenty of attention on warm-up runs around the city.
Ed, from Bridge of Don, said: "The kids were screaming at me, asking me to turn around and wave at them, hearing them shout 'Spidey!' A lot of the time, I've got my headphones in, but they're actually making a point of screaming at me now.
"I've got the Spidey suit on when I'm out as well as the Charlie House bright orange t-shirt over the suit so people can see what I'm doing it for. It's pointless going about in a Spidey suit if no one knows what it's for.
"I messaged [Charlie House] and told them I was wanting to do the challenge and I said I'd love it for the kids to decide what superhero they'd like to see me as. I don't want to pick myself, I want the kids to vote for it.
"And apparently it was a unanimous vote for Spiderman, so Spiderman it is. On my other runs I've actually been out as Iron Man as well but the kids were adamant they wanted Spiderman so that's the suit I'll be wearing for the 100 miles."
Ed previously ran from Aberdeen to Inverness for a mental health charity with a 20kg Bergen – a military-style heavy duty backpack – slung over his shoulders, and managed 87 miles in 24 hours. This time around, he is confident that he can smash the 100 miles in 24 hour target without the extra weight.
He said: "That was for mental health and I did that with 20 kilos on my back, and I managed 87 miles in 24 hours. I didn't quite make the 100 but I'm really confident that without having the weight on my back I should really blitz the 100 without the Bergen.
"That was gruelling, really gruelling. I couldn't walk for three days after that one.
"The heat with the Spidey costume might be a challenge because with the Bergen I could at least stay a bit cool but the costume just leaves you absolutely soaked. This time I'm running unaided again with all of my stuff so I don't ask for any help."
Ed hopes to take in towns like Inverurie on his 100-mile trek to build a buzz around his run and to raise more cash for Charlie House. His JustGiving page has a target of £1,000.
He added: "I know I'll really, really push for the target for the kids so I'm really confident that I'll get this one done in under 24 hours not a problem. It's just fun as well.
"It's not everyday you see Spiderman running about with a bright orange t-shirt on. I'm really buzzing for it and it's got my adrenaline going.
"A lot of people say 'you're mad' and stuff like that but I'm focused, it's for a really good cause and I'm going to have fun doing it."
