Marvel Avengers star Jeremy Renner has second surgery for 'extensive' injuries as police investigation launched

Hollywood star Jeremy Renner remains in intensive care after undergoing two surgeries following an horrific snow plowing incident on New Year's Day. The Marvel Avengers actor suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries, and remains in a critical but stable condition, reports CNN.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office in Nevada has said that it is investigating the incident. Renner, who plays Hawkeye in the Marvel movie and TV franchises, was reportedly attempting to clear a path while plowing his driveway to his five-bedroom Lake Tahoe Ranch in Nevada following blizzard conditions in the US.

Unconfirmed reports suggest a Snowcat plowing ran over one of Renner's legs, and he was losing a lot of blood. TMZ reports that one of his neighbors, a doctor, potentially saved the actor's life by using a tourniquet to stem the blood flow until paramedics arrived.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office said in a statement regarding the incident: "At approximately 9:00am on January 1, 2023, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a traumatic injury in the area of Mt. Rose Highway in Reno, Nevada.

"Upon arrival, Deputies coordinated with Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and REMSA Health to arrange for medical transport of Mr. Jeremy Renner via care flight to a local area hospital. Mr. Renner was the only involved party in the incident."

His publicist Sam Must released a statement saying: "“As of now, we can confirm Jeremy is in critical but stable condition with injuries suffered after experiencing a weather related accident while plowing snow earlier today. His family is with him and he is receiving excellent care."

After underdoing a first surgery on Monday (2 January), Renner remains in intensive care. It came as dozens of people were killed across the US amid blizzard conditions.

The Arctic blast stirred up heavy winds and snow, trapping some residents inside their houses with snowdrifts and knocking out power to tens of thousands of homes and businesses. The scope of the storm has been nearly unprecedented, stretching from the Great Lakes near Canada down to the Rio Grande along the border with Mexico.

Renner previously tweeted about the snow at his US ranch in December, writing: “Lake Tahoe snowfall is no joke.” The storm unleashed its full fury on Buffalo, with hurricane-force winds and snow causing whiteout conditions, in what has been branded one of the worst weather-related disasters to hit the western part of New York state.

Renner, a two-time Oscar nominee, is well-known for playing Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has also featured in films including The Hurt Locker, American Hustle, and Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol. He is currently starring in Paramount+ series The Mayor Of Kingstown.
