Martinez and Eriksen start as Manchester United fans name preferred line-up against Atletico Madrid

Manchester United supporters are calling for Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen to start when the Premier League side get down to business with Atletico Madrid in Oslo.

Martinez and Eriksen met their teammates for the first time at Carrington on Tuesday morning and were promptly thrown into action during a behind-closed-doors game against Wrexham, in which the Denmark playmaker scored. But will those two get the nod against Diego Simeone and his battle-hardened opponents?

United have named a 21-man squad with Cristiano Ronaldo among those left at home. However, there could be a first appearance of the summer for him against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday afternoon. Here is the line-up Manchester Evening News readers want to see take on Atletico;

Goalkeeper - David de Gea

Despite making three signings in other areas, United have yet to offset Dean Henderson leaving on loan by signing another goalkeeper. David de Gea will be first choice between the posts this season regardless, though, and he will play against his former club this lunchtime.

Defenders - Diogo Dalot, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia

Despite knowing the player well from his Ajax days, Ten Hag will want to take a closer look at Martinez before this season gets underway and supporters agree with the manager there. United have several options to partner him as Raphael Varane gets the nod here with Diogo Dalot and Tyrell Malacia flanking them.

Midfielders - Bruno Fernandes, Fred, Christian Eriksen

Scott McTominay and Fred have been the preferred midfield pivot this summer, but Eriksen could get his chance to impress in a deeper role if supporters have their way. Bruno Fernandes and Fred will definitely start with one eye on Brighton, while Donny van de Beek also comes into the mix.

Forwards - Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford

United might not be blessed with attacking options as things stand, but the three names above have dovetailed in pre-season to earn the right for first dibs when the main business gets underway. One or two more goals to share in this final outing in Oslo would be just the ticket.
