Martin Roberts rushed to hospital in 'hours to live' scare

Martin Roberts was told he'd have had "hours to live" had he not had emergency heart surgery on Wednesday.

The Homes Under The Hammer star was rushed to hospital after experiencing chest pains, where he was told there was "a massive amount of fluid" surrounding his heart. In an Instagram video filmed from his hospital bed he told his fans he is "still around, thank goodness".

Speaking to the camera, the 58-year-old said: "Well, I have to say this isn't where I expected to be watching Homes Under The Hammer today. I've some good news and a bit of bad news.

"I ended up in the Royal University Hospital in Bath yesterday, I've been having quite a lot of chest pain and generally feeling lousy."

He then explained he'd had an emergency operation last night to remove the fluid from his heart. Adding: "Had they not got rid of it... it's sort of quite serious, hours to live, that kind of c**p."

Martin continued: "Anyway here I am still around thank goodness, the guardian angels all those things. There's lots of complications that have happened as a result but we'll work through those and I'll keep you updated.

"Meanwhile there's a good tv show on I can watch while I'm here". Martin then panned the camera around to show Homes Under The Hammer on the television in his hospital room.

Captioning the post, Martin said: "So. Bit of a shocker. At least I’m here to tell the tale … [prayer emoji]". Fans rushed to offer their support.

Malachi London said: "They’re watching over you and why wouldn’t they you are a kind caring souk, sending hugs and wishing you a speedy recovery" [sic]. Lisa Heathershaw said: "Aww mate, sending you get well wishes. At least you're watching the best daytime programme".

Susan Jackson said: "Omg that's an awful shock, take care and speedy recovery x". Callycatori said: "Speedy recovery, glad you're on the mend. Very scary".
