Martin Odegaard shows Mikel Arteta why Arsenal should hijack Tottenham's dream transfer reunion

Arsenal need to strengthen the midfield in the summer transfer window to support Martin Odegaard in creating chances for the team. Mikel Arteta has the perfect chance to do this by attacking the free agency market.

Christian Eriksen will be available for a free transfer in the summer transfer window after his six-month deal at Brentford is set to expire. He would be the ideal signing for the Gunners, and his availability without having to pay a fee will prevent Edu from being financially stretched.

However, a deal will not be easy to complete as according to the Times, Tottenham are confident they can land their former player on a free transfer. Manchester United are also said to be interested in the Denmark international.

Martin Odegaard was Arsenal’s best midfielder during the last campaign due to the creativity he added in Mikel Arteta’s squad. However, there was a lot of burden on the Norway international to be the creative source without much support, and it is an issue that Edu must address in the summer transfer window.

Arsenal are in desperate need of a midfielder ahead of next season. Eriksen would be able to fill this gap, and be the solution to the creativity burden that is placed on Odegaard, which should persuade Edu to explore a possible deal.

Mikel Arteta has had problems with the midfield this season due to the lack of quality in squad depth, and that has hindered the club’s progress at times. If the Spaniard opts for three players in the centre of midfield then Eriksen would be an excellent option to have on the left-hand side for the future.

The Gunners had previously been linked to the former Spurs player, with Watford sporting director Cristiano Giaretta backing a potential deal in 2021. “Arsenal are regaining confidence. They’re walking again and Eriksen, honestly, could be of use there [at Arsenal],” he told Tutto Mercato.

Eriksen has been excellent since his return to Premier League football with Brentford after signing a short-term deal with the club in the previous January transfer window. His creative exploits proved to be a major reason why the Bees avoided relegation in their first-ever season in the Premier League.

Odegaard would welcome a transfer to ease the pressure for him to create chances and give Arsenal an extra source of creativity that the squad was crying out for last season. It will be a free transfer to secure his services and solve the midfield solutions that needs looking at for Arsenal, meaning it is a deal that the Gunners should certainly pursue.
