Martin Odegaard injury boost for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta after Norway ankle scare

Arsenal will breathe a huge sigh of relief regarding the fitness of Martin Odegaard over the next few weeks following injury analyst Ben Dinnery's verdict on the playmaker's fitness.

Odegaard has played a starring role for the Gunners this season to help guide Mikel Arteta's side to the top of the Premier League table with a number of Man of the Match performances. The 23-year-old has netted six league goals and provided another two assists in 13 games this season after slotting alongside Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus in the north-Londoners attack.

However, unlike his attacking teammates, Odegaard is not currently participating in the Qatar World Cup this month after Norway failed to qualify from their group. The Gunners skipper did, however, join up with the national squad shortly after Arsenal's 2-0 win over Wolves in their final Premier League game for two friendly fixtures against the Republic of Ireland and Finland.

Odegaard registered two assists in Norway's 2-1 win in Dublin but suffered an injury scare in the fixture with neighbouring country Finland. The playmaker seemed to take a hit to his ankle but managed to play the whole 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw before being seen limping onto the team bus.

However, injury analyst Dinnery has provided a positive update on Odegaard's chances of being included in Arsenal's first game back in action on Boxing Day against West Ham. "There's nothing at this point to suggest that it's anything too serious. The fact that it was more impact than a knock is a good sign," he told GiveMeSport.

"I haven't got any concerns at this point that his availability is in any way, shape or form under threat for when the Premier League fixtures resume."
