Former Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill has explained why Liverpool never signed Gareth Barry back in 2008.
Under the stewardship of Rafa Benitez, the Reds were widely known to be interested in signing Barry 14 years ago. The midfielder was a key player for Villa, helping the club finish in sixth place in the Premier League the previous season.
As a result, Liverpool were keen on bringing Barry to Anfield. However, a deal never materialised and Barry himself did publicly speak about his desire to move to Anfield.
