Martin Lewis warns of energy bills ‘crisis point’ after 'depressing' ITV This Morning call-in

Money saving guru Martin Lewis has warned that thousands of people are at a ‘crisis point’ on their energy bills, as he vented his frustration following a ‘depressing’ call-in on ITV’s This Morning.Energy prices are set to soar from the current price cap, which is set at £ 1,277 per year for the average household. It is scheduled to rise to £1,971 from the beginning of April and industry analysts have warned that this could surge by a further £1,000 in October if wholesale prices do not stabilise.

The show’s host Phillip Schofield introduced a question from ‘Marie’, whose son has ‘complex medical needs’ and is ‘ventilated for 22 hours a day’. “This together with all his other medical equipment is bumping up our energy costs,” Phillip read. “My electricity for this year is estimated at £5,000. Can I get help with this?” the question for Martin continued.

Looking visibly worried, Martin remarked: “And that’s going to get bigger.” “I think we are at near crisis state for many people with disabilities and vulnerabilities at the moment. Whether it’s a ventilator or electrical wheelchair or a stairlift or a feeding pump or an oxygen concentrator or a dialysis machine or whatever else you have at home that uses a huge amount of electricity for the health of you or your children,” he said.
