Martin Lewis has "urged" people aged 45-70 to check if they're his 'pensions special' which aired last Tuesday by warning of a deadline which could affect people without realising it. Talking on his 'pensions special' of The Martin Lewis Money Show Live, which aired last Tuesday (February 21), Martin warned viewers that anyone aged between 45 to 70 have only until April 5 to "plug any gaps" in their National Insurance record going back to 2006.
After that date, in six weeks time, you will only be able to go back six years in the past, which he says means "up to 11 years could be lost". Speaking on his 11 years could be lost, he ran through how the new State Pension was introduced back in April 2016.
To qualify for the full payment of £185.15 a week Martin says “you need 35-ish qualifying national insurance years. I say ‘ish’ because it’s just complicated. So maybe 35, maybe more in some circumstances."
