Martin Lewis has urged women to check if they are due thousands of pounds on their state pension.
The Money Saving Expert said more than 230,000 women could be due a payout – with the average amount being more than £6,000. Women who hit the state pension age before April 2016 - mainly married women (including widows and divorcees), and over-80s (whether married or not) - may have been underpaid.
The error is on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions' computer systems and though the repayments are automatic, not all women will receive them.

Mr Lewis said those who need to pick up the phone for the payout include women who got divorced after reaching state pension age and haven't had their pensions reassessed. If your husband turned 65 before 17 March 2008 and you're being paid less than 60% of your husband's basic state pension then you may also need to take action.
A married woman who is on zero basic state pension, but receiving a small amount of additional state pension, also known as SERPS, or graduated retirement benefit also falls under the same category.
How to check if you're owed and claim your payout
To check if you have been underpaid and are owed, contact the Pension Service and ask about your situation. Mr Lewis advised to also do this if you fall under any other categories but want to be sure you will get what you're owed.
