Martin Lewis warning that affects all Christmas shoppers

Martin Lewis has repeated an important message to Christmas shoppers as we head towards the big day.

Last year, the Money Saving Expert founder shared a number of top Christmas shopping tips. On Monday, he took to Twitter to remind people they have no legal right to have anything bought in stores refunded.

Along with a poll, he said: "Just writing my Christmas consumer rights guide.

"Be honest, are you surprised when I say [you have] NO LEGAL RIGHT to return goods bought in store if u change their mind, or they don't fit when u get them home (though some stores allow it). You've only a legal return right if they're faulty."

While 50% of people said they were aware of the rule, some 30% said they were surprised, while 20% said they were "not sure".

Consumers have no legal right to return items bought from shops unless there is something wrong with them. Even then, there is a 30-day limit to bring items back.

Many shops do allow quibble-free returns for shop-bought items, but this is not guaranteed. This is further explained on an MSE article, which states: "When you buy goods they must be satisfactory quality, as described, fit for purpose, and last a reasonable length of time".
