Martin Lewis warning over 'demon appliance' in the home

Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis has issued a warning over a 'demon' home appliance that turns out to be one of the biggest energy users. Speaking on a new episode of The Martin Lewis Podcast, he shared tips that could save on energy bills.

Martin explained that one of the worst appliances for using up energy in the home is the tumble dryer. He stated that the machine is "really expensive" and that residents are typically spending a quid each time they use it.

For people suffering greatly throughout this cost of living crisis, dehumidifiers, or airing your clothes outside, are, Martin said, far cheaper options. Dehumidifiers are typically used to help get rid of dampness in homes.

People normally use them to keep their homes damp-free while drying their clothes inside on a clothes rack. He said: "Do you know what the real demon appliances are in people's houses?

"The one that you really don’t want to use because it’s really expensive. Tumble dryers. I mean you’re typically laying up to a quid per load, so dry you clothes on an air rack outside to shorten the amount of time you’re using your tumble dryer. Or avoid using it completely.

"Those who use dehumidifiers, that can take some of the moisture out of it but it’s less wattage than a tumble dryer, so it can be more effective." Martin went on to challenge his audience to be "draft detectives". He implored people to walk around their houses and see what drafts they can spot - and then seal them up.
