Martin Lewis warning on date to take energy meter reading to avoid higher bills

The much publicised energy hike is nearly upon us and Martin Lewis is urging UK households to take action. The MoneySavingExpert advises UK households to take a gas and electric meter reading on Thursday this week (March 31) to avoid paying more than they need to.

Millions of people across the country will see their bills rise. Ofgem is increasing its price cap on Friday, April 1, 2022 and for those on a default tariff who pay by direct debit, the price cap is going up by almost £700 in a huge hit on household bills, reported the Mirror.

But Martin has explained that if you take a meter reading on Thursday, March 31, you can tell your energy provider exactly how much gas and electricity you used before the price cap increase. He said: "That way you draw a line in the sand that says to your energy firm, I've only used this amount at the cheaper rate."
