Martin Lewis says £40 Marks and Spencer buy can save shoppers £100s

With Christmas fast approaching and only two paydays left for most of us, many present hunters are looking at ways to spread their cash further. The MoneySaving website founded by financial whiz Martin Lewis has offered some advice.

In the past, the website has recommended high street retailer Marks and Spencer as a go-to place for one particular item, the M&S £40 beauty advent calendar for anyone who is considering buying beauty products for their loved ones. However, it is not to give as a present in its entirety but to split.

According to the experts, it's a way of saving hundreds on Christmas presents. Martin advises buying one of the calendars, which contain full size beauty products that work out at a fraction of their usual price, and splitting up the contents into separate Christmas gifts. The beauty advent calendar is back in stock for 2022, and this year it contains contents worth £300 - but still costs only £40 when you spend £30 on the M&S website.

The advice was first spotted by Nottinghamshire Live's sister publication, Manchester Evening News when the trick was highlighted in an episode of the Martin Lewis Money Show Live in 2021. The news outlet says that the consumer champion told viewers: “This is a way that you can bag beauty products at a fraction of the normal cost and they often sell out early.”

He continued: "This is the big one. I reckon it’s worth around £230, costs you £40, but you can only get it if you spend £30 on non-food stuff in M&S. The fact you have to spend £30, you may as well do that anyway because even for £70 if you want the stuff in it, it’s worth it."

This year's M&S beauty advent calendar is worth even more than last year's, and contains £300 worth of products. Shoppers who spend £30 on the M&S website can get the advent calendar for £40 instead of £300, so it's well worth doing.

This year’s beauty advent calendar contains nine skincare products, three bath and body, three makeup, two nail, two fragrance and six haircare products. The calendar features designer names such as L'Occitane, Clinique and REN.
