Martin Lewis has offered new advice to energy customers who are on a prepayment plan. This comes after some people on prepayment meters have had difficulty receiving their energy bill discount, offered by the government.
The government is giving every household an additional £400 spread out over six-months in help towards their energy bill payments. Each month between October 2022 and March 2023, bill payers will receive £66 or £67 taken off their energy bills.
However, some people on prepayment meters have reported struggling to claim their discount. PayPoint said just over half (53%) of the 800,000 vouchers it has issued have been redeemed - totalling around £27 million in support that is going unclaimed, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Mr Money Saving Expert, Martin Lewis, shared on social media why people might be missing out on this payment, and what they can do to access it.
Martin though some people might be unable to redeem their voucher because they do not have photo ID proof of their identity. He said, instead, a bank statement or household utility bill dated within the last 12 months should work as well - emphasizing the 'should'.
The consumer expert wrote: "I'm hearing some people are unable to claim their Energy Support £66/mth vouchers (for non-smart prepay meters) because the vouchers say you need photo ID - and you may not have. If so they should (can't promise) accept a household bill or bank statement (dated within 12mths)."
Anyone on a traditional prepayment meter should have already heard from their supplier, who should have explained how you will receive your payment - through vouchers or through credit. Discount vouchers will be sent to you through text, email, or post.
Some will have been told they will automatically receive credit when they top up at their usual top up point. You should contact your supplier if you haven't been told how you will receive your energy discount.
