Martin Lewis issues statement as he takes a break ahead of 'scary autumn and winter'

Martin Lewis has announced that he will be taking some time away from work. The Money Saving Expert founder bid followers "goodbye for now" as he signed off for the next few weeks.

Writing in his weekly MSE email, the financial journalist and broadcaster said that he would be using his time away to focus more on his wife Lara and his daughter Sapphire. He added that he also needed to recharge ahead of what promises to be a busy autumn and winter.

Following a guide to boosting and protecting your credit score, Lewis added a quick note entitled: "PS: And it's goodbye, for now, from me." He wrote: "For the next few weeks, I'm taking a work-break to focus on being a daddy, a husband and recharging my batteries (though I'll be back for the price cap announcement) as there's a scary autumn and winter coming and I want to be on form to be able to help."

He then addressed what would happen to the Money Saving Expert newsletter and website in the meantime, adding: "The site and email will continue to flourish in the overly capable hands of the MSE team. Ta-ta."

It comes the day after he warned Amazon Prime users to take urgent action following the news that the price of membership will rise from September 15. Mr Lewis, who regularly shares tips and advice on how to navigate the cost of living crisis, has advised those who can afford it to switch to the annual payment now to save as much money as possible.

Posting to Twitter earlier this week, he wrote: "On 15 Sept, the monthly membership price increases from £7.99 to £8.99, and annual membership from £79 to £95. If you currently pay monthly, and want to keep it, if you can afford switch to annual now, to get next year at £79. Pls share.

"If your annual renewal is just after, then try cancelling and restarting just before 15 September."
