Martin Lewis issues holiday hack for Zara shoppers going to Spain, France or Greece

Consumer champion Martin Lewis has issued money-saving advice for anyone who shops in Zara and is planning on going on holiday.

The financial guru is urging anyone in the UK who is going to Spain, France or Greece to stop shopping in Zara, as the money-saving hack could pay for your flight.

Writing in his latest MoneySavingExpert newsletter, Martin pointed out an 'enormous' price difference between shops in Europe and the UK. If you're planning on buying before you jet off on holiday, he is urging shoppers to 'stop right now'.

On MSE, he wrote: "If you're one of the millions planning a trip to Spain at some point this summer, stop shopping at Zara right now. The giant Spanish fashion brand sells clothes in its native country far cheaper than here, so wait until you get there if you're planning on buying something. It's also usually cheaper, though not as much of a difference, in other countries where you pay in euros too."

In amongst his examples, Martin showed a woman's dress. On the Spanish website, it costs €39.95 which is £33.80, in France it costs €49.95 which is £42.20, and in the UK it costs £49.99. He adds that the average prices are 31 per cent cheaper in Spain and Greece than the UK, and 21 per cent cheaper in France and Italy.

He also pointed out a long women's printed dress that is £109 in the UK and €89.95 in Spain, which is £76.10, saving you around £33 — which could bag you a cheap flight with a budget airline.

The same pricing structure applies for other members of the same retail group, like Massimo Dutti and Pull and Bear. When you see a Euro price on a ticket in store in the UK, Martin also urges customers not to assume that it's from Spain, as he points out prices differ between countries in Europe.

He added: "Do pause though to think of the environmental impact of flying, and of overbuying fast fashion. I wouldn't suggest you do a trip just for this, more that if you're going anyway and need to buy, take advantage."
