Viewers praised Martin Lewis's response to Edwina Currie's suggestion to use foil to keep warm this winter. The Money Saving Expert and Good Morning Britain guest host appeared visibly frustrated over the former MP's energy crisis comments on Monday morning (September 5).
He moved his hands to his head as she held a piece of foil-like material and suggested "putting something like this behind your radiators, it really works". Saying it was a little thing that made "such a difference", she went on to add that "most people my age have lived in houses without central heating".
After Edwina's foil tip, Martin reminded her just how much bills had risen and the likely impact that this would have on families. He then placed his head in his hands as he urged the former politician to understand that the tips alone would not work to bring bills down, the Mirror reports.
This led to the pair clashing, as Edwina continued to suggest his choice of words were not helpful for people and their mental health. Martin asked: "Edwina, isn't that a catastrophe? Isn't that a catastrophe? Let's be honest."
She responded: "It doesn't help using words like that Martin," to which he replied: "But it is a catastrophe, you may not like the language." Edwina went on: "The language is not helpful," as Martin then told her: "You can't ignore the rise in bills, that's what is a catastrophe it is not my language, it's the practice of what is happening."
