Martin Lewis fan shares how she saves £350 a year on internet with money-saving hack

A Martin Lewis fan has shared how she saved hundreds of pounds a year on her broadband and a faster speed.

This comes as Martin has warned of a 'financial cataclysm' as the energy price cap is expected to rise a staggering 64 per cent on top of the increase we saw back in April. The inflation rate has hit 9.4 per cent with experts warning it could hit 12 per cent within months.

To help punters where he can, Martin shares money saving tips in his weekly MoneySavingExpert newsletter and highlighted one fan who took his advice. As a result, they slashed their internet bill.

The MSE team urge broadband customers to not settle for the price they are left with once the contract ends. In the newsletter they said: "There's a hidden world of haggling out there. Not in street markets, and not the faux business schtick of The Apprentice. It's with call centres, where, if you're out of contract and don't want to leave, don't settle - haggle."

And this haggling hack has seen great success. One woman, named Jo, wrote to MSE to share her bargain.

She praised MSE and wrote: "Thank you for the really helpful "Haggle with Virgin Media" article - I'm usually too nervous to ask at all, and I'd never have managed without this guide. I read the advice and success stories, I wrote down all the right phrases and the prices from researching competitor deals, and then I felt confident to give it a go.

"I rang Virgin Media because my contract ends this week and my bills were due to go up from £31 to £61 a month. Instead, we've got an upgrade from 200Mb to 350Mb and the bill goes up to... £32 a month. Thank you so much for helping me keep the bills under control!"

Along with this, the MSE also advise broadband customers looking for a cheaper deal to set a benchmark at how much they are willing to pay, after a bit of research to see what's on offer. They also add that if you're getting nowhere, tell the broadband provider you will leave- you might be surprised at what they have in their back pocket.
