It took just one phone call for one woman to find herself £800 better off after following the advice of money saving whiz Martin Lewis. After watching last week's ITV programme, The Martin Lewis Money Show, many people may have wondered if they could turn the financial guru's advice into hard cash.
One person at least acted on the advice and then shared her gratitude and experience. After tuning into the show, which among other tips, offered advice on claiming 'marriage allowance', she decided to make a call.
In the episode, Martin explained that the marriage tax allowance allows you to transfer £1,260 of your personal allowance (the amount you can earn tax-free each tax year) to your spouse or civil partner, if they earn more than you. Tweeting to Martin, she wrote: "After watching your program last night on marriage allowance, I rang up today and £800 cheque is in the post … thank you for all that you do, we are lucky to have someone like you."
