Martin Lewis cries on air after woman blows kisses at him

Martin Lewis was overcome with emotion during his Money Show on Thursday evening.

The programme saw Debbie from Plymouth, who had got in touch to thank the Money Saving Expert founder.

Around a year ago, Debbie found herself "living in a cycle of credit cards and overdrafts" and said her bank had suggested she declare herself bankrupt.

But just 12 months later, Debbie shared some good news live on the show.

She said: "I never miss the show ever and I went to my bank they declined to help me I was absolutely devastated, it was the lowest point of my life.

"I watched one of your programmes around this time last year and I did what you told me. I didn't give up hope, even though I'd been declined many times by different lenders.

"I applied for a fluid 0% credit card for nine months. Miraculously, they approved and that was the turning point of my life."

Debbie began to cry as she continued: "I put my two highest credit cards onto there like you told me to, I paid them all off in nine months. The money I saved, I then put on my overdraft.

"I'm now completely debt free. I have a £30 month pay rise from my work, I now bank that every month and that went towards Christmas and I've now been able to book a holiday to see my brother and his family in Cyprus.

"Thank you so much because if I didn't watch you all the time, I would not have had that faith."

Martin's eyes began to fill with tears as Debbie blew kisses to him from her video call.

He said: "I'm gonna have to stop you because I'm gonna go..."

Viewers were clearly emotional too.

Taking to Twitter, Seb Ate said: "Debbie’s story of getting out of debt and getting to a point where she can have a holiday is the good news story we need right now."

John Hawryluk said: "Wow wow wow. Debbie’s story on @itvMLshow is amazing and why consumer finance advice shows are sooooo important on main stream TV."

Lea_mcc_uk said: "I genuinely think every bank should have a #MartinLewis on hand to talk through a smart way out of debt for people who are able to make a few deliberate choices to change their life.

"It won’t help everyone but it would help the Debbies."

The Martin Lewis Money Show airs Thursdays at 8.30pm on ITV and the ITV Hub
